There are native speakers of French in France, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Monaco, the US, and some African countries. French descended from old Latin and developed under the influence of native Celtic languages and by the Germanic languages. French is the official language in 29 countries. Most of them form La Francophonie, the community of French-speaking nations. It is an official language of all UN agencies and several other international organizations.
